4. Coaching Relationship

Coaching is a collaborative, solutions-focused process. It is not therapy or counselling and does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions.

Scope of coaching services

Sessions may address:

•       Exam preparation, revision structure, and study skills

•       Confidence and self-belief

•       Stress and anxiety management techniques

•       Emotional regulation (sophrology, breathwork, visualisation)

•       Communication and family dynamics

•       Wellbeing and performance mindset

Coaching does not address:

•       Clinical mental health disorders requiring professional treatment

•       Clinical diagnoses or assessments

•       Medication management

•       Crisis intervention or emergency support

•       Direct therapeutic treatment of psychological conditions

Client responsibility

Clients and/or their parent/guardian agree to:

•       Take responsibility for their own decisions and actions

•       Seek appropriate professional help for medical or mental health concerns

•       Inform Kate of any relevant health conditions that may affect coaching

•       Understand that outcomes depend on individual engagement and circumstances

5. Coaching with Children and Teenagers (Under 18)

Parental consent

All direct coaching services with clients under 18 require written parental or legal guardian consent before the first session. No session will take place without valid parental consent on file.

Parents/guardians must:

•       Complete and sign a Parental Consent Form

•       Provide emergency contact details

•       Disclose any relevant medical, mental health, or additional needs information

•       Agree to be informed of any safeguarding concerns

Age requirements

•       Minimum age: 12 years old

•       Ages 12–17: Written parental/guardian consent required

•       Age 18+: No parental consent required

Confidentiality with teenage clients

Kate Boyd-Williams respects teenage clients' privacy and aims to create a safe, confidential space. However, confidentiality has important limits:

Information shared with parents: General progress and session themes; any safeguarding concerns; issues affecting the young person's safety or wellbeing.

Information kept confidential (where safe to do so): Specific session content and personal reflections; details of conversations, unless disclosure is required.

When confidentiality must be broken: Risk of harm to the teenager or others; disclosure of abuse (past or present); safeguarding concerns; legal requirement to disclose; medical emergency.

Teenagers will be informed of these limits at the start of coaching.

Safeguarding

Kate Boyd-Williams adheres to UK safeguarding best practices. If concerns arise during coaching regarding the safety or wellbeing of a young person, Kate will follow UK safeguarding protocols, report concerns to appropriate authorities where required, and work with relevant professionals (school, social services, GP) as necessary. The safety of the young person is always the priority.

Parent communication

Before coaching begins, an initial consultation with the parent/guardian is required. During coaching, brief progress updates will be shared at a frequency agreed in advance. Parents have the right to request a parent-coach review session at any point and to withdraw consent and end coaching at any time.

Session format — minors

Sessions for clients under 16 require a parent or guardian to be present in the building or immediately contactable during the session. Sessions are conducted via secure video call (Zoom). Session recordings will only be made with explicit written consent and for supervision purposes only.

6. Wellbeing and Mental Health Monitoring

While coaching is not therapy, Kate maintains awareness of client wellbeing throughout sessions. If indicators of significant mental health decline, self-harm, disordered eating, substance use, or suicidal ideation are observed, Kate will:

1.     Address concerns directly and age-appropriately with the client

2.     Inform parents/guardians (for under-18 clients)

3.     Recommend appropriate professional support (GP, CAMHS, school counsellor)

4.     Pause coaching until professional support is in place, if appropriate

Crisis contacts: If a client is in immediate danger, emergency services will be contacted. Kate Boyd-Williams is not equipped to provide crisis support.

Emergency contacts for young people:

•       Samaritans: 116 123 (24/7, free)

•       Childline: 0800 1111 (24/7, free, under-19s)

•       SHOUT Crisis Text Line: Text SHOUT to 85258

•       NHS Mental Health Crisis Line: 111

•       Emergency Services: 999

7. Techniques and Practices

Breathing exercises, sophrology practices, visualisation, and other regulation techniques are generally safe for most people. However, do not use these practices if you have respiratory conditions, cardiovascular conditions, panic disorder without professional support, pregnancy complications, or any condition affecting breathing or heart function. Stop immediately and consult a healthcare professional if you experience dizziness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or any other concerning symptoms.

8. No Guarantees

While Kate Boyd-Williams provides evidence-based tools, practical guidance, and professional expertise, no specific results or outcomes can be guaranteed. Every individual is unique. Results depend on personal circumstances, consistency of engagement, and factors beyond Kate's control.

Clients acknowledge they are voluntarily participating and assume full responsibility for any decisions made based on content or coaching received.
